Brown Progressive Action Committee
Significant Current RI Legislation
S183, H5686 - Would allow undocumented immigrants to obtain driver's licenses, making our roads safer and allowing the undocumented communities more security and peace of mind, and enabling many to drive to work.
H5515 - To create standards to protect the rights of undocumented immigrants being detained.
H5173 - Reinstates free RIPTA passes for elderly, disabled, and homeless individuals. This past January, NoFare RIPTA passes were abolished. Free public transportation is what many individuals rely on to get to meal sites, shelters, medical appointments, etc. Local soup kitchens have seen a decrease in attendance since NoFare passes were eliminated; this bill aims to revive free passes for these members of our community.
H5210 - Aims to criminalize poverty and homelessness by making loitering on a public highway (ostensibly to collect money) a misdemeanor.
