Brown Progressive Action Committee
Given the challenges facing the country right now the need for meaningful progressive activism is as pressing as ever. All over the United States, progressive values are being challenged or rolled back; only citizen engagement will be able to prevent this assault on progress from happening.
The Brown Progressive Action Committee exists in to help facilitate this work. Designed with the intention of promoting meaningful political action at Brown, in Providence, and in Rhode Island, BPAC will serve two primary roles:
First, BPAC will serve as a centralized hub for political action opportunities. Building on the already exemplary work being done by activists in our communities, BPAC will amplify these efforts by promoting progressive groups’ events, connecting interested volunteers with causes, and facilitating the process of turning organizational goals into policy accomplishments.
Second, BPAC will spearhead efforts on Brown’s campus to promote progressive ideals in Rhode Island. Supporting the progressive wing of statehouse and city council legislators, BPAC will organize phone banks, letter-writing campaigns, rallies, testimonies, and do the necessary organizing to help turn progressive ideas into law.
By mobilizing students to engage in local political activism, BPAC hopes to use the energy and passion on Brown’s campus to spur positive political change for Rhode Islanders. We hope you’ll join us, in one of the many ways that you can!
